Have you ever forgotten to get the hamburger out of the freezer and then had to think of
something else for dinner -–or spend the time unthawing it in the microwave? Now you can
take your hamburger out of the freezer and start cooking it in less than a minute! You can
also save money by taking advantage of the lower-priced “family-sized” packages of
hamburger, breaking them into smaller groups and freezing them. How? Just follow these
simple steps:
- Take the weight on the package (in pounds) and double it – then break the hamburger
into this many smaller groups (i.e. if you have five pounds of hamburger, you should
divide it into 10 smaller, equal groups). Each of these smaller groups will be ˝-pound.
- Take each ˝-pound group and put it in a quart-sized “zipable” freezer bag (like Ziplock
bags).
- Use a rolling pin or similar object to flatten the hamburger inside the bag. It should be
less than ˝-inch thick.
- Now stack all of these in the freezer to freeze.
When you need the hamburger, just pull out a bag and put it in a sink of hot water for about
30 seconds and it’s unthawed and ready to cook!
