11/27/2005 JOHN & JOAN TRIP
Joan and I just returned from a week business/fun trip through the Midwest. We visited Hannibal, Missouri, on the Mississippi. Saw Mark Twain's boyhood home, the "Tom Sawyer" whitewash fence, Becky's house, the lighthouse.
Then we went to Navuoo, Illinois. Saw the Navuoo Temple, many early Mormon homes and business buildings. Navuoo is quite a small town. Found an excellent Thanksgiving dinner at a local hotel.
We visited the Amana Colonies in Iowa. The Amana immigrated from Germany and Switzerland in the 1800's. They settled briefly in New York, then came to Iowa and established seven villages--the colonies. They lived communally until 1932, when they converted to contemporary living. Much of their early lifestyle is preserved--crafts, German language, food, religion. An excellent visit!
11/9/2005 RUSSELL ON MISSION
Russell left today on a two-year mission to Yekaterinburg, Russia, for the LDS Church. He will be in the Missionary Training Center until Jan. 23, 2006. We will miss him!
8/18/2005 IGNOBLE
Murray just previewed his latest cinematic production, "Ignoble". It is quite a professional film production. It has been submitted to five film festivals. Fingers crossed that it is accepted and WINS!
8/2 - 8/12/2005 TEXAS TRIP
Joan and Alice trooped off to Texas to attend the McElroy family reunion/revival in Alpine, Texas and to do genealogy research. They found the graves of two aunts, an uncle, and a great-grandmother. While they were there Tommy flew down and climbed Guadalupe Peak, highest peak in Texas. Hudson came with him, but she didn't climb--she was tended by Joan and Alice. Enroute home Joan and Alice visited Carlsbad Caverns, Sante Fe, and Mesa Verde. Joan and Alice did this trip once before, in 1999.
6/25 - 7/19/2005 WHIDBEY VACATION
John and Joan were off to Oak Harbor, Whibey Island, WA. Joe & family, Tommy & family, Russell, and James came for the July 4th weekend. Then John and Joan were all alonesome, and could only work on the house and yard (and the '63 Corvair). Enroute home we visited James in Portland, then down to Coos Bay, Oregon, for an overnight visit with Dick and Pat.
