11/17/03 CODE AMBER
I have added a 'Code Amber' ticker at the top of our Home Page. Code Amber is a service to broadcast information on missing/abducted children as soon as possible, to aid in the recovery of these children. It will automatically tell you if a child has been abducted anywhere in the U.S., and give you information about the child and the abduction.

8/2/03 JOHN AND JOAN VACATIONS
Our (John and Joan) recent news is two vacations to Whidbey Island, Washington. The first trip was June 25 - July 10. Mostly we boated in the San Juan Islands and Gulf Islands (Canada) with our friends Dick and Pat. We lived on the boat and sailed from port to port.
We spent one night in Reid Harbor on Stuart Island. We hiked to a one-room one-teacher schoolhouse (K-8) that serves the entire island (7 students), and to a light station (doesn't quite qualify to be a light house). Spent two nights at Port Sidney on Vancouver Island. Visited Buchart Gardens on Vancouver. Dick and John almost buy a restored Model A Ford truck. One night at Ganges in the Gulf Islands. Two nights tied to a bouy in Blind Bay on Shaw Island. Here there is a small general store run by nuns (who graciously posed for us). Took a ferry to Friday Harbor, which is a cute tourist town.
Then we went again August 4 - 19. This trip was special because Chris and John Brodersen were with us for a week. We did the quaint, picturesque towns on Whidbey Island (Oak Harbor, Coupeville, Langley), then Friday Harbor, Port Sidney, Victoria (capital of British Columbia, on Vancouver Island), Buchart Gardens. We took a ferry from Whidbey to Port Townsend, a quaint old town on the Washington mainland.
The next week Dick and Pat and Joan and I toured a Russian submarine (the Cobra) in Seattle Harbor. Then we took a ferry tour of Seattle Harbor, then out to Tillicum Village on Blake Island. At Tillicum we had an excellent salmon dinner, then were treated to a show of Northwest Indian cultural dances.
7/30/03 RUSSELL TO GERMANY
Russell left for Germany for a year of study. He will study German for four months, then study architecture for two months at a German institution, then he will work for an architecture firm for six months. His first location is Saarbrücken. Click here for a picture of his apartment building. He is in a program called CDS which is sponsored by the American Congress and the German Bundestag. This is the same program Murray attended several years ago. I will put Russell's E-mails on his personal web page.
6/24/03 WILL AND FAMILY VACATION
Will and his family broke away from Florida to vacation in Utah and Wyoming June 11 - 24. It was wonderful to see them! They and Joe and family spent several days at Yellostone Park. Ben spent an evening playing Dungeons and Dragons with his uncles and cousins. Josh and John spent some time observing local geology, including the ragged edges of the techonic plate that forms the Wasatch Front Mountains.
