11/11/01 NEWS FROM MARIE AND STEVE
Steve has been called to be the new bishop in the McKinnon Ward. We were flabbergasted and didn't think such a thing would ever happen to us again. But after the shock wore off, we feel very humbled and dedicated to our new calling (my part of it is being the mother of the ward and the support, etc. ha, ha). So no more leisurely Sunday naps and all that good stuff, for Steve, at least. We'll have to forget that we thought we belonged to the rocking chair crowd.

Kohner Bryan White arrived in the Bonnie and Leon White family at 6:30 a.m. October 30, 2001. He weighed in at 9 lbs. 2.7 oz., 21 inches long. Kohner has a slight reflux problem, stomach acids backing up into his esophagus, so he has extended his stay at the hospital a few days. Bonnie doing well.

9/15/01 SHAYLA'S BIRTHDAY
...unfortunately I had the worst Birthday ever. I bought a skateboard even though my parents didn't really want me to, mainly because they didn't have insurance from they're new jobs yet. And guess what I had to go and do? I broke my arm! So I'm in trouble. At least it's it's my left arm (I'm right handed) and only a hairline. Happy Birthday to me. It seems I always have to break something when celebrating. I had a really bad break a couple years ago at a 24th of July celebration.
Well there's not much more to say and I'm having trouble typing this with one hand so-

9/14/01 FROM MARIE
I've been up to my neck in bottling peaches. I must be preparing for the FAMINE! Now I'm down to the very last ones and I'm making all kinds of fun stuff. Peach chutney is simmering on the stove right now. I think maybe it's going to be weird. I've made peach jam, peach jelly, peach juice, and am going to be making peach orange marmalade. I wish I had a clone, there are so many things to do, and only one me. We've really been busy subbing already, which is good for the pocketbook.
Isn't the destroying of the world trade center, etc., disturbing, terrible and everything. There really aren't words to describe it. I feel sad for all those who have lost loved ones, and can't believe it happened in America.
Love, Sis
8/28/01 IT'S A GIRL! (From Brad & Lisa)
Hi! Just wanted you to know the good news. Our new little one is here. IT's A GIRL! Brad and I were in tears when our new little one arrived Sunday 26th 2001 at 3:18 P.M. We couldn't believe it! She was 5'13 lbs, 16 1/2 inches long, lots of dark hair. Labor took forever. Birth went smoothly. We have named her: Whitney Rose Triplett! Click here to see Whitney.
8/23/01 Marie's News
Well, maybe you've figured it out by now. We didn't climb King's Peak. What a bummer! It seemed like no one could get their schedules together. Maybe next summer....
We went with Joseph to Ephriam, Ut. to get him settled in Snow College. I was mad, the dorms were soo-o-o crummy, but other than that, I guess it will be ok. He has called home, and says their are lots and lots of good looking girls. So thats the most important thing anyway, isn't it? He is doing fine...a little homesick.
All the kids except Joseph were here for the weekend. What a lot of fun we had, went to Spirit lake and rented a boat and a canoe and went out of the lake, taking turns, of course. And the men fished, no one caught anything. Then we went to Sara's house for fireworks and a barbeque, later a slide show (family slides). Finally we were so exhausted we had to call a halt to it and go home and go to bed. The next day Weston had his baby blessed. She is a beautiful baby girl, really a doll, and I'm not just prejudiced either. This morning we said goodby to Weston and Wendee and their family as they began their drive to Alaska. They will drive to the coast of Canada, take a ferry to the coast of Alaska, and drive on to the AFB. I will be glad when they are safely there.
Perhaps life will now settle down a bit. I will be busy getting stuff out of my garden and freezing it for the winter, and canning, etc. Steve has various projects to funish up before winter. I can't believe summer is so close to over.
Love, Marie
8/21/01 John, Joan, & Russell Trip
Joan, Russell, and I (John) just made a trip to visit our friends Dick and Pat Kimberley and boat with them in the islands of Washington and British Columbia. Their motor-sailboat, which they live on, is called the
"H2O Buffalo". We started our trip at Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island (Deception Pass bridge to island) and sailed to La Connor Marina the first day. Motor-sailboats are slow--about 7 miles per hour.
The next day we sailed to Friday Harbor in the San Juan Islands. The third day we boated to Port Sidney on Vancouver Island (Canada). Enroute we saw a pod of Orcas (killer whales) and several porpoises which came right up beside the boat.
We bused down to the southern end of Vancouver Island to Victoria, the capital of British Columbia. This is quite a pretty city, especially the harbor area. They were holding "dragon" boat races while we were there.
We finished our trip by taking a ferry back to Whidbey Island where we had left our cars. The ferries are huge--they can probably hold 100 cars and trucks--and they are fast. We then drove down to the southern tip of Whidbey Island and took a ferry across to the mainland, and came home. A very enjoyable trip!
7/29/01 Joseph Wilkinson graduation
Kind of belated, but Joseph Wilkinson graduated from high school this spring. Congratulations, best wishes, Joseph!
7/19/01 The North Dakota Trip
Joan and I (John) and Iris and her children made the trip to North Dakota for Hans' and Shannon's wedding. Linnea came from Montana. What an enjoyable trip and event! It was a wonderful wedding. And we had a great visit--it was a mini reunion.
Enroute Joan and I visited the site of the Battle of Little Big Horn (where Gen. Custer and some 250 soldiers met their fate). Visiting this place made it so much more real than merely reading about it. What a lot of western history is in the Wyoming-Montana-Dakotas area!
After the wedding Joan and I went to Medora, ND (Teddy Roosevelt's western home) where we saw the very enjoyable Medora Musical and an enactment of Roosevelt's life. We then went to the Black Hills, SD, saw Mount Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Monument . The next day we visited Devil's Tower (867 feet high). We came home through central Wyoming--saw a lot of small towns I'd never been to, and a LOT of dry, wide open space.
